I Love the Office

I Love the Office - was written while working from 1980-82 in an Audio Visual company as a technician and producer. Every day was the same ritual, the same comments, the same coffee and tea and biscuits.

Every day the florescent lights went on and the plants were watered and the pens went missing. The endless drama of running outside to put money in the parking meters. The mind-numbing rituals of morning and afternoon breaks peaking with lunch.

It was written to the theme of La Cucaracha because I always expected to see a Conga Line of robots with buscuits and tea in hand!

I Love the Office

Hello good morning, hello how are you
I think the milk is sour.
How was your weekend, the mail just came,
There is a meeting in an hour.

Dr Jones called and said he'd call back,
Your Cocker Spaniel had a pup.
The coffee just boiled and we've got biscuits
Would you be ready for a cup?

I love the office
It's so rewarding
It keeps me busy all day through.
I have my own desk
Under the neons
And I take lunch from 1 til 2
There's so much to do,
I love the office don't you?
Don't you?

Hello good morning, hello how are you
Was the traffic bad?
Did you park near or round the corner?
The meters really drive you mad.

That plant is dying, did you watch TV
Somebody stole my pen!
Can you sign these aAnd take a call please?
It could be Dr Jones again.

I love the office
It's so rewarding
It keeps me busy all day through.
I have my own desk
Under the neons
And I take lunch from 1 til 2
There's so much to do,
I love the office don't you?
Don't you?

Typewriter solo

I love the office
It's so rewarding
It keeps me busy all day through.
I have my own desk
Under the neons
And I take lunch from 1 til 2
There's so much to do,
I love the office don't you?
There's so much to do,
I love the office don't you?
There's so much to do,
I love the office don't you?!!

- Jay... Acoustic guitar, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals, DMX drum programming, live JX-3P and Poly-6 keyboards and Bass step programming into the JX-3P.

Notes:
- This song is, to my knowledge, the only song in recorded history with a typewriter solo. Of course in 1981 we had no idea that typewriters would be obsolete within ten years!

- The calling out at the start was what happened every day... the secretary would call out "Good morning..." to everyone who walked upstairs.
